Technique hop- Wood Shapes

Welcome to our Technique Blog Hop!  This month we are highlighting the use of wooden shapes, the creating pearlescent wood shapes Technique is shown on page 39 in the Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book!  This blog hop is a great big circle so you can start wherever you want and continue through to see all the fabulous artwork incorporating this technique.

If you are coming from Debi'sBlog, you are on the right track!

We would love to see what you’ve created using this month’s technique, please visit our challenge blog at http://technicallyterrific.blogspot.com where you can share your project and be entered in a chance to win great prizes.  You will also find a listing of all participants and their blog addresses if you should get lost or want to reference a blog along the way.  Let’s get started!

This month I was working on three projects. In each project I did something a little different with the wooden shapes.I did work with the pearlescent wood shapes technique, as well as stamping on the wood shapes and finally just using them as accessories.

There are 2 layouts, both are just 1 12x12 page. I did this because I haven't printed all of my pictures so this allows me to manipulate the second page of the two page spread as far as how many pictures wells to put on it.

I used stippling on the desert sun peice to give it a more sandy look. Then for the wooden shell piece I took pearl paint to it to lighten it up and make it shine. I however did not do the next steps of the technique on page 39 because I liked the light shimmer that you get from the first step. Which is shown in this picture.

This is a close up of the lightly pearled shell. You can't see the shimmer super well in this picture.

For this layout I did several things. As far as the wooden shapes are concerned i did the second part of the Technique in the spring/summer idea book 2012 on page 39. I did not put on the pearl paint, but I did color the starfish with my gold rush marker, and then touched up the edges of the starfish with desert sand.

This is a close up. When the gold rush was first applied it looked fairly bright and more orange. I like how as it set it faded some.

This was a wood badge button in the top corner of the layout. I took lagoon with a silver dollar stamp to this button.

here I took some liquid glass over some of the spirals of the sun. I then put glitter over it, by doing it this way I was able to determine how glittery I wanted it to be.

The last project I did was this card. It was a very simple card, and I liked being able to use the June stamp of the month so well with it. I simply used the wooden bird from the color ready accents- garden set. Which matched perfectly with the phrase. I also took pearl paint to the white flower as well as the flower inside of it. The wooden bird I actually enjoyed its natural color, so I only went around him a few times on the edges and under belly with desert sand to help the bird stick out from the background.

Calendar Page

While I did this back at the end of march beginning of April, I waited until now to show it because it had a date on it and my blog would have explained what the day represented. Read more about this project below as to what it is and why I made it.

This was a calendar page for the boat during my husband's deployment. The wives all pick a day or multiples if there are enough days and decorate that day of the calendar. It is posted in the mess area so all the guys can see it in part to keep moral up and so they know what day it is. As shown from the picture I had April 11th.

I had put buzz lightyear in this because we seen Toy Story 3 on ice with out him due to his schedule. The bottom number at the time had represented how many days he had till he was checking out of this command and going on a leave before going to shore duty.

After that day is over the day is given to the sailor to do with as they wish. Mine enjoys stuff like that so he brought it home and now it can be stored in a scrapbook.

Crafty Anniversary

Below is a picture of a wall in my bedroom. While me and my husband have been together for over 7 years we celebrated our fifth anniversary as husband and wife May 16th. It was a surprise to get to actually spend it with him since he was originally suppose to be deployed. This however made him a little sad because he was with out a gift then and mother's day. So I found this to be the perfect gift because it reminded him of the importance of time together and the lack of importance in gifts. =)

Its a good thing I'm not a hearts n flowers type of girl!
